Crochet rediscovered

The elderly lady who used to babysit me and my siblings taught me to crochet.  She also always had a ready supply of chocolate.  Then I learnt more crochet in girl guides.  It was the only useful thing I learnt in guides.
After the teddies reignited my knitting I was sorting through my bag of odd balls of yarn and found my old crochet hook.  A quick Ravelry search later and I was off!  Happily my brain hadn't forgotten how to crochet.

I love making these little circles, they are so quick and easy to pick up in odd moments. I don't have enough yarn for a blanket( I was so inspired by Snippa's blanket, check it out)  but do have enough for a Christmas gift....you'll have to wait and see what it is.

I think crochet is easier than knitting and more portable.  If the hook slides away you only have one stitch to find, rather than a dropped row.  I am curious though - which one do other people find easier?

  1. I can never decide which I prefer, both have pros and cons. You're right crochet is definitely more portable and pick-upable.

I'm in knitting mode at the moment, just finished my waistcoat today and already thinking of starting another. (Don't mention the unfinished gansey!)

Enjoy your circles, very pretty ice cream shades.

  2. I am a fairly competent knitter but I can't crochet! I've tried to learn several times but have never managed to pick it up. I still dream of being able to do a granny square! :)

    1. I am sure you just need the right teacher! Oddly I trued and failed to teach my friend whi is a skilled knitter but she just cannot seem to grasp crochet. cc

  3. Ooh!! Looking lovely, gorgeous colours....like sweets, refreshers or something. I keep meaning to get back to crochet, I agree, more portable and if you make a mistake easier to pull out! My mums recently rediscovered crochet and there's no stopping her, it's even led to her joining ravelry ( she's very timid about any kind of online registering) soi think I might have to pick something up for when I next visit so we can sit and crochet together!!

  4. I continue to struggle with crochet. I can't seem to master the gesture; my hand always hurts when I try to do it. But there's some very pretty trimmings that you can make in crochet, so I'd really like to build up my skill level.

    1. My hand ached when I first started again but with practice it went away! Crochet trimmings...that would be so good on a skirt. You have got me thinking now. xx

  7. I too find crochet easier, especially the lace, but it does require me to watch it at all times since you really have to watch where you put the hook. In knitting since every stitch is knitted off the needle, I can do it without watching. I think the best thing about crochet might be the joy of mixing colors so easily!

  8. I think crocheting is easier, but I have not done it as much so I should re-learn it. I love the circles you are making. I really should take the time to figure it out once more. Would be a nice long term project to work with in between more complicated projects.

  9. Cute little circles, such happy colours! I like the motion of knitting better, and I only know the most basic of crochet stitches... I failed my first try of lace shawl knitting though, and am thinking of trying lace crochet instead...
